“My tour of Nicaragua was incredible! It was obvious that Jessica did a lot of research and preparation in creating the perfect itinerary: a wide array of activities, meals, and cultural experiences mixed in with her personal accounts of and experiences within the country. The unique experiences that I will forever carry with me include the tour of a pineapple farm, the bat cave in Masaya, and the cloud forest at Mombacho. On a smaller scale, I thoroughly enjoyed the endless variety of fresh fruit juices – delicious! Overall, the itinerary presented a perfect mix of visits to tourist destinations as well as many off-the-beaten path explorations. Further, it was refreshing and relaxing to have my whole trip planned out before my arrival. “On a beautifully clear day, we set off from an isolated community south of Managua to hike up a small hillside to gain a panoramic view of the Masaya Volcano (which we had explored up close the previous day). We had only hiked a few meters when we noticed that five curious kids from the community had joined us. I thought it was a pretty significant hike, but these kids were walking barefoot, and one young girl was carrying a toddler! They walked with us all the way to the top, carrying the toddler, and generally seeming to be entirely at ease, pointing out all of the sights to “los gringos.” At that point I remember thinking, “I’m really experiencing the people and the landscape here…this isn’t staring out the window of a tour bus.”
